Every day, we make sense of the social world by noticing what is happening around us. We read facial expressions, body language, tone of voice and the environment to help us decide what to do, what to say and how to respond.
For some young people, these social clues are easy to miss or difficult to interpret, which can lead to misunderstandings, uncertainty or feeling out of step with others.
This interactive session helps young people develop their ability to notice, interpret and respond to the social clues they encounter in everyday life
At Learn 2 Be Social, we believe that understanding comes before social skills. When young people understand what is happening around them, they are better equipped to make thoughtful social choices.
Many social expectations are never explained they are simply assumed.
Young people are often expected to know when to join a conversation, recognise when someone wants space, understand different social settings or notice how others are feeling without anyone ever teaching them how.
Learning to recognise social clues helps young people feel more confident, communicate more effectively and better understand the people around them.
