My Story

Social Skills Educator | Founder of Learn 2 be Social

I’m Natasha Leona, a social skills educator and founder of Learn 2 be Social.

I support children and young people who find social expectations unclear, confusing, or difficult to navigate. Many of the children I work with want to do the right thing, but struggle to understand why certain behaviours are expected, how other people may be thinking, or what choices are available to them in social situations.

My work is grounded in both lived experience as a parent and many years of supporting children and young people through mentoring and social learning. I hold a degree in Health Psychology, but my approach is educational rather than clinical. My focus is on helping children understand social situations more clearly, so they can apply that understanding in everyday life, build confidence, and develop positive relationships.

Why I Created Learn 2 Be Social

My youngest son was the person who truly highlighted how much we often take social awareness and social understanding for granted.

He experienced communication difficulties, and throughout his childhood I spent a great deal of time helping him understand why people behaved in certain ways socially and what different social situations meant. Over time, I noticed that as his understanding grew, his confidence and social skills began developing more naturally.

It was never simply about telling him what to do. It was about helping him make sense of the social world around him.

This experience inspired me to create SuperBunny & Me a social learning approach designed to help children understand friendships, emotions, social expectations and everyday interactions in a clearer and more meaningful way.

Through stories, discussion and guided social learning, I found that many children and young people began developing greater social awareness because they finally understood the “why” behind social situations.

My Philosophy

At Learn 2 be Social, I believe that not all children naturally develop social awareness and social understanding in the same way.

Many people who did not experience difficulties with communication or social interaction can unintentionally assume these skills should simply be “picked up.” However, for some children and young people, understanding friendships, emotions, communication, group expectations and everyday social situations is not automatic.

When children struggle to understand the social world around them, this can often lead to frustration, misunderstanding and labels that do not reflect their true potential.

I believe some children need social understanding to be taught clearly, patiently and directly. Instead of assuming they already know, we should take the time to explain the “why” behind social expectations and help them make sense of the world around them.

As children begin to understand social situations more clearly, confidence, self-awareness and communication can grow. Over time, this understanding can positively influence behaviour, relationships and decision-making.

The goal is not perfection. The goal is to help children become more aware of their choices, understand possible consequences, and feel more confident navigating social situations independently.

What I Hope Children and Young People Gain

My hope is that children and young people gain far more than just social skills.

I want them to develop greater self-awareness, confidence and understanding of both themselves and the people around them.

Through supportive social learning, I aim to help children recognise social cues, understand different perspectives, manage challenges and make thoughtful choices in everyday situations.

Most importantly, I hope they feel understood, supported and more confident navigating the social world with greater awareness, independence and social confidence.
